National Center for Engineering and Technology Education
Nathan Mentzer is a Post Doctoral Research Associate for the National Center for Engineering and Technology Education (NCETE). His research agenda is focused on high school student design thinking. Nathan’s dissertation investigated potential correlations between academic preparedness as predictor of two outcomes: achievement growth and motivation growth of high school students in an engineering design challenge. Nathan was a secondary technology education teacher in Montana prior to his graduate study at Utah State University.
David W. White, Ph.D.
Florida A&M University
David White earned his B.S., M.A. and Ph.D. from The Ohio State University. He is currently an Assistant Professor and the Technology Education Program Coordinator at Florida A&M University. Prior to earning his degrees, David worked for 20 years in the graphic arts and manufacturing industries. David is currently revising and updating the Technology Education curriculum at Florida A&M as well as working to get the program certified in the State of Florida. David is also working with a new STEM initiative cohort at Florida A&M. Additionally, he is involved with Epsilon Pi Tau, the Florida Technology Education Association, the Florida TSA and the Florida A&M Developmental Research School. His research interests include Students with Special Needs in Technology Education, Collaborative Video Assessment for Pre-Service Technology Educators, and Academic Integrity in Technology Education.
Josh Brown, Ph.D.
Illinois State University
Josh Brown is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Technology at Illinois State University. Dr. Brown teaches pre-services technology education courses and graduate courses in the master’s degree program focused on STEM Education and Leadership. He has experience as a classroom teacher at the middle school and high school level. Along with teaching, he has worked as an author developing curriculum materials for the Humans Innovating Technology Series (HITS) and Kids Innovating Technology Series (KITS), which were published by ITEEA. Dr. Brown’s educational background includes a bachelor’s degree in Technology Education from Ball State University, master’s degree in Educational Psychology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and a PhD in Curriculum Studies from Purdue University.
Wendy A. Ku, Ph.D.
Simsbury High School
Wendy A. Ku received her B.S. Ed and M.A. degree in Technology Education from Central Connecticut State University in New Britain, CT and completed her Ph.D. and M.A. in Technology Education from The Ohio State University in Columbus, OH. She is currently a Technology & Engineering teacher at Simsbury High School in Simsbury, CT where she teaches Project Lead the Way and technology education courses. Her research interest includes the utilization of concept maps as a pedagogical tool to assess conceptual knowledge in the technology and engineering education classroom, along with qualitative research methods. In the future, Wendy would like to extend her research interests with the technology and engineering educators at the international level, especially with the Asian countries such as Taiwan and China. Other experiences include an externship with local manufacturing businesses such as a laser manufacturing company to gain manufacturing industry experience. Currently, Wendy is a board member ITEEA’s Technology Education for Children’s Council (TECC) and has served as their treasurer for the past 5 years.
University of Wisconsin-Stout
David Stricker is an associate professor for the Teacher Education program, as well as the director for the Master of Science in Technology Education program at the University of Wisconsin-Stout. Prior to completing a doctorate degree in 2008 from University of Minnesota, David taught middle and high school level technology education classes for ten years. His research interests include topics regarding pedagogical practices, student learning, and their meaningful interaction in sTEm disciplines. Specifically, the role of emotion, controversial subject matter, competitive events involving technology and engineering aptitude, and the role of reflection in the engineering process are of particular interest, especially related to sTEm pursuits.
Laura J. Hummell, Ed.D.
California University of Pennsylvania
Laura J. Hummell has taught numerous subjects and grade levels over the last eighteen years. She currently works at California University of Pennsylvania as an assistant professor in the applied engineering and technology department. Her main duties include supervising technology education student teachers and teaching instructional methods courses. Her research interests include:
* incorporating art and design in applied engineering and technology education;
* the effects of incorporating community service and service learning projects in technology education;
* the effects of the National Board certification process on candidates and their students;
* designing, developing and implementing effective online distance education instructional strategies;
* making science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) courses and careers accessible to all students; and
* using animation, animatronics, applied robotics, nanotechnology and career and technical student organizations (CTSO) to increase kindergarten through twelfth grade students’ participation in STEM courses and careers.
Laura obtained her Bachelor of Science in Education from Penn State University, a Master of Science in Education from Old Dominion University, and a doctorate in Educational Leadership from East Carolina University. She is an active member of TSA, TEAP, and ITEEA.
Jennifer A. (Jenny) Lee, Ed.D.
Old Dominion University
Jennifer A. Lee is an assistant professor in the Occupational and Technical Studies Department at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia. Jenny earned her M.Ed. and Ed.D. in Technology Education from North Carolina State University, and her B.A. from the University of North Carolina at Asheville. Jenny is a professional development and instructional designer and trainer for the A+ Schools Network of the University of North Carolina, Greensboro and taught elementary school in North Carolina. Jenny is also a certified motorcycle instructor. Her research interests include examination of gender equity in technology education and the other STEM areas.
