ITEEA COMMITTEE DESCRIPTIONS

AWARDS COMMITTEE

Primary Responsibility

Provide recognition to members and others as they contribute to the excellence of technology education.

Length of Service:  three years

Assigned Tasks

  • Prepare announcement soliciting award nominees to be placed in TTT.
  • Review current procedures and criteria for ITEEA Teacher and Program Excellence awards. Make recommendations to the Board of Directors.
  • Solicit nominations and select recipients for the following citations and awards.
  • Recruit at least one international member to serve on Awards committee.
  • Review the recognition programs to ensure alignment with the Technological Literacy Standards.
  • Develop mentorship/leadership programs to promote professionalism in technology education.

Award Recipients Selected By the Committee:
Academy of Fellows
This is the highest recognition the Association can bestow upon any person. To qualify, the individual must have gained prominence in and brought honor to the profession of technology education. Recipient must be an ITEEA member. The awardees will be granted membership in the Academy of Fellows of the International Technology and Engineering Educators Association.  Individuals will be considered based on:

  • Leadership roles in ITEEA and other affiliate organization(s), and
  • Presentations and professional development activities at local to international level, and
  • Recognition by peers.

Award of Distinction
To qualify for the Award of Distinction, the individual must be an ITEEA member and have distinguished him/herself through accomplishment in:

  • Improvement of Instruction, or
  • Research and Scholarship, or
  • Effective Teaching.

Lockette/Monroe Humanitarian Award
This is given to an individual who is an ITEEA member and has promoted humanistic values while serving as a technology education professional on the national/international, state/province or local level in one or more of the following areas: 

  • Developing social awareness,
  • Preserving democratic and/or human dignity processes; and/or
  • Maximizing the potential of individuals.

Public Understanding of Technology Award
This award shall be given to an individual who, while working in his/her field, has contributed substantially to the public understanding of technology. This includes individuals from any field. Nominators are encouraged to identify candidates whose contributions have reached broad audiences and have a sustained record of contributing to the public understanding of technology.

William J. Wilkinson Meritorious Award
The Meritorious Service Award is presented to an ITEEA member worthy of commendation for service to the International Technology and Engineering Educators Association.  To be considered, individuals must have provided continuous service to ITEEA and

  • Affiliate Association(s) or
  • The profession.

Special Recognition Award
To qualify for this award, the recipient must be an ITEEA member and have made a significant contribution to ITEEA or technology education.  To be considered, individuals must meet one of the following criteria:

  • Promoted technology education at any level (local to international) with a resulting impact; or
  • Actively facilitated or participated in professional development for technology educators with a resulting impact; or
  • Recognized at any level for outstanding service or achievements in Technology Education.

Awards Managed by Other Groups:
Awards selected by ITEEA affiliates but managed by the ITEEA Program Excellence Awards Chair, and Teacher Excellence Awards Chair
Program Excellence Awards
This award recognizes outstanding technology education programs from each affiliate association at the elementary, middle, and high school levels.
Teacher Excellence Awards
This award recognizes outstanding technology education teachers from each affiliate association at the elementary, middle, and high school levels.

Awards determined by, and presented by, designated
organizations or committees:
Distinguished SHIP Member Award
This award honors an EEA-Ship member for work exemplifying the purpose for which the organization was formed—developing a better and closer working relationship between businesses in the school field and educators.
Prakken Professional Cooperation Award
This award honors an individual exhibiting exceptional qualities, which have promoted the field of technology education in cooperation with other fields or disciplines. The recipient of this award may be from outside the technology education field or a member of ITEEA.


CONFERENCE PROGRAM

Primary Responsibility

Review the structure and operation of the association's annual international conference program and recommend changes in its operation.  The committee is selected by region.  There is no correlation between the regional location of the committee members and the upcoming conferences.  It is suggested that committee members be geographically located within driving distance of one another to facilitate a face-to-face meeting of the committee members. When a new conference committee is appointed it is strongly recommend the new chairperson attend the final meeting of the outgoing committee.

Length of Service:  three years

Assigned Tasks

  1. Make recommendations to adjust the timing and schedule of the conference to meet regional and international needs of the conference attendees.
  2. Establish firm timelines for materials pertaining to conference program presentations.
  3. Evaluate conference presenter applications for use at annual conference.
  4. Coordinate association and council meetings.
  5. Recommend annual conference theme and strands.
  6. Recommend creative alternatives to types of conference activities.
  7. Evaluate the annual conference program.
  8. Recruit international members to serve on Conference Program committee.

ELECTIONS

Primary Responsibility

Identify the slate of officers for the Association consistent with the Bylaws.

Length of Service:  One year

Assigned Tasks

  1. Implement the election components of the ITEEA Bylaws. Bylaws can be found at: http://www.iteea.org member’s only section.
  2. Promote cultural and gender diversity in all ITEEA leadership roles.
  3. Recruit at least one international member to serve on the Elections committee.
  4. Work with The Technology Teacher staff in preparing an ad to be placed in the journal soliciting candidates to run for office.
  5. Solicit candidate names from ITEEA committee chairs, affiliate representatives, affiliate presidents, and other leaders in the field.
  6. Identify candidates to run for office, contact members to run for office, and request them to complete application. (form HB-7)
  7. Consistent with the Bylaws, the Elections Committee shall present a slate of officers to the President-elect, consisting of a maximum of four (4) candidates for each office.
    • The committee shall use a scoring rubric to assess each candidate’s application. (ranking forms ELC-01, ELC-02, ELC-03)
    • The committee shall present the strongest slate of officers possible, and will make every effort to insure that representatives from each of the ITEEA Regions are represented.
  8. The President-elect, in consultation with the Executive Committee, shall review the slate of officers for approval.
    • The slate of officers shall be reviewed for cultural and gender diversity.
    • The slate of officers shall be reviewed for Regional representation.
    • Any changes require consultation with the Elections Committee Chair.

MEMBERSHIP

Primary Responsibilities

  • Suggest and encourage appropriate activities and services for increasing Association membership at all levels of education.
  • Review membership categories and practices and make recommendations to the Board of Directors.
  • Suggest appropriate activities and services to retain current association members.

Length of Service:  three years

Assigned Tasks

  1. Work with ITEEA Liaison on membership issues.
  2. Inform the Board of Directors of ways to enhance the recruitment process.
  3. Develop strategies for assisting affiliates and the ITEEA to maintain and increase membership (i.e. promotion ideas, activities, etc.).
  4. Develop strategies to solicit and maintain elementary school memberships.
  5. Prepare at least two articles for affiliate association newsletters.
  6. Review the membership structure and report to the Board of Directors through the President-elect.
  7. Identify services delivered by other international associations.
  8. Identify new ITEEA services to be implemented.
  9. Develop recommendation for systematic and procedural changes to improve the quality of membership services
  10. Recruit at least one international member to serve on membership committee.
  11. Develop suggested benefits and services package for business, industry and international members.
  12. Develop a marketing plan for each new membership category.
  13. Develop a recruitment message and strategies for each of the new membership category.
  14. Develop materials for dissemination to electronic membership.
  15. Collect data outlining the quality of services to members in the areas of professional development, conferences, curriculum, publications and membership through the awards program.
  16. Develop recommendation for systematic and procedural changes to improve the quality of membership services through the awards program.

SPECIAL EVENTS

Primary Responsibility

  • Identify special events for technology educators.
  • Coordinate and promote events that support the ITEEA Strategic Plan.
  • Recruit at least one international member to serve on Special Events committee.

Length of Service:  three years

Assigned Tasks

  1. Plan and operate a job placement service at the annual conference.
  2. Plan, promote, and conduct the Technology Festival at the annual Conference.
  3. Contact ITEEA Teacher and Program Excellence Award winners to present at the Technology Festival.
  4. Prepare TTT announcement soliciting Technology Festival presenters.
    • Develop bio-fold or tri-fold type program that highlights the Technology Festival presenters.
    • Provide the presenters detail schedule containing the location, exhibit set-up time, and any other necessary information prior to the annual conference.
  5. Design and promote international exchanges between and among attendees at the annual conference.
  6. Recommend new events that will enhance technology teaching to the Board of Directors. Such recommendations should not be restricted to the annual conference.
