Curriculum & Standards Specialists

Assistance in Advancing Standards-Based Reform

The INTERNATIONAL TECHNOLOGY AND ENGINEERING EDUCATORS ASSOCIATION (ITEA) and its Technology for All Americans Project (TfAAP) recruited and prepared six educators* from across the country to assist regions, states, and localities in advancing technological literacy* standards-based reform*. Originally called Standards Specialists, this cadre of professionals remain available to conduct presentations and half-day, full-day, or multi-day workshops* on a cost-recovery basis that help participants:
  • Become familiar with the set of technological literacy standards* articulated in the publications entitled Standards for Technological Literacy: Content for the Study of Technology (STL) and Advancing Excellence in Technological Literacy: Student Assessment, Professional Development, and Program Standard (AETL).
  • Learn how to interpret and implementt* the standards effectively.
  • Learn how implementation of the standards influences participants' teaching practices.*
  • Experience and model* practices demonstrating the applications of STL and AETL.
  • Begin to explore and align content,* student assessment,* professional development,* and programs* with STL and AETL.

Workshop Presentations

Since the release of STL in 2000 how successful have you been with its implementation? If you are in need of assistance the presentations that follow may be of use. They provide a general overview of STL and offer implementation tips.

Warning: The links to the workshop presentations lead directly to files in Microsoft PowerPoint® format. If you are unfamiliar with the PowerPoint® format, please read Opening Files in Specialized Formats before clicking on the links. Unless your computer uses a Microsoft Windows or Mac operating system you will be unable to open and view these files.

The Short Workshop is indicative of the material offered in a two to four hour Specialists workshop about the STL portion of the technological literacy standards (29 slides, 1.71 MB).

The Full-day Workshop is indicative of the material offered during a day long Specialists workshop about the STL portion of the technological literacy standards (68 slides, 1.75 MB).

Administration of the Curriculum & Standards Specialists was reassigned to the Center to Advance the Teaching of Technology and Science (CATTS), a division of ITEA, when TfAAP ended in October 2005. Current information about the program will remain available in the CATTS section of the ITEA web site.

When the TfAAP web area was archived (January 2006), the CATTS web area could be accessed by resting your cursor on the link labeled "Prof/Curr Devel" on the left side of this web page, towards the top, and clicking on the CATTS link in the fly out menu. Optionally information was available from ITEA by phone at 703-860-2100 or via email at standards@iteea.org. Either contact method could be used to schedule a Specialist.

TfAAP was initiated and administered by ITEA and funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).
