WELCOME FROM THE 2008-2009 ITEEA PRESIDENT
Welcome to the INTERNATIONAL TECHNOLOGY AND ENGINEERING EDUCATORS ASSOCIATION. ITEA is the leading professional association dedicated to promoting Technological Literacy for All and assisting in the professional development of those educators worldwide who are active in teaching Technology, Innovation, Design, and Engineering (TIDE). Everyone knows who teaches about the M&S in STEM. In ITEA you’ve found an organization dedicated to the T&E in STEM! Nowhere will that be more evident that at our 71st Annual Conference in Louisville, Kentucky on March 26-28, 2009. The conference theme is Delivering the T&E in STEM, and the strands will be organized around topics related to technology, innovation, design, engineering or multidisciplinary approaches to teaching about STEM. Throughout the year we will be pursuing some basic themes. The first theme is to work with the youth of our profession and help foster their penchant for service in their chosen field. Another theme is to add to our conference by trying to feature some popular competitive events on our exhibit floor. With outstanding keynote speakers lined up and a location that is easily accessible from many parts of the country we hope to have a great conference. Downtown Louisville has been dramatically revitalized in the last few years and will provide a nice conference venue. The last major theme is to re-explore our purpose and our charge in order to help our profession gain traction in the broader educational community. We will be conducting multi-year strategic planning this summer in Pennsylvania and we will plan to survey our membership about some specific strategic directions. Please take a few moments to peruse our website and discover the many resources available to assist you in providing your students with outstanding technology education and engineering experiences. You will also uncover materials and resources to assist you or your local affiliate in advocating and promoting the study of technology education, technological literacy and beginning engineering concepts. Additionally, there are many learning communities available for you to join. These learning communities can connect you with other professionals in the field. InnovationStation is geared toward the Elementary Teacher. Hemisphere connects Technology Education professionals worldwide. The TideWatcher community allows members to share strategies and information regarding legislative issues involving technology education. Lastly, IdeaGarden is a teacher-to-teacher format for sharing ideas and mentoring. I hope you will consider joining the ITEA in support of our mission. Only membership provides us with the resources necessary to champion our cause. I welcome hearing from our membership. Feel free to send me an e-mail at email@example.com at your convenience.
