Technology and Engineering Dedicated STEM Professional Development (PD) Webinar Series
ENGINEERING FOR ALL: A TRANSFORMATIVE APPROACH TO TECHNOLOGY AND ENGINEERING EDUCATION
Using Important Social Contexts to Enable Students to Make a Difference in the World

DESCRIPTION: Engineering for All (EfA) is a collaboration between Hofstra University and ITEEA. The Project, funded by the National Science Foundation, has created two six-week curriculum units for secondary school technology and engineering education classes that are situated in the important social contexts of food and water. The units employ engineering design as the core pedagogy and integrate content and practices from Next Generation Science Standards and Standards for Technological Literacy. EfA is part of ITEEA’s Engineering byDesign™ Program.

The major Project drivers that underpin Engineering for All are:

  • Promoting the potential of engineering as a social good.
  • Revisiting overarching themes (design, modeling, systems, resources, and human values).
  • Using authentic social contexts for teaching and learning STEM ideas and practices.
  • Using Informed Design as the core pedagogical methodology.

Millennium students want to make a difference in the world! This Webinar will help you meet your students where they are. The two units that will be discussed by the EfA development team are:

FOOD - Vertical Farming: Fresh Food for Cities
To address the grand challenge of producing food for a growing world population, students design a vertical farm using hydroponic growing systems.

WATER - Water: The World in Crisis
To address the grand challenge of improving water availability and safety, students explore issues of water scarcity, the effects of unsafe water, water contaminants, and water filtration methods.

PRESENTERS: Lead EfA teachers will discuss their success in implementing these units with technology and engineering students.

This webinar series is FREE for ITEEA members. The fee for non-members is $49/session.
