How do you transition hands on project-based learning to a virtual format? Our new virtual learning environment has led to many changes in lessons, project formatting, collaboration, and project grading. Join us as we discuss the successes and challenges of transitioning a wide range of classes including coding, robotics, CAD, introductory woodworking, and project based learning to a virtual format in a Grades 6-8 middle school setting.
Jessica Liatys is a middle school teacher of Design, Technology, & Innovation at the School District of the Chathams in Morris County, NJ. Prior to this she was a STEM teacher at a gifted and talented academy in Orange, NJ. Jessica helped pilot the first STEM program and gifted and talented academy in Orange, NJ as well as helped implement the middle school STEM program in Chatham, NJ. Jessica received her Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology Criminal Justice as well as her Master’s degree in Information Technology Computer Network Security Administration from the New Jersey Institute of Technology.
James Hitchings is a middle school teacher of Design, Technology, & Innovation at the School District of the Chathams in Morris County, NJ. Prior to this he was a Science and STEM teacher at a private school in Denville, NJ. James also spends his summers as a Program Director for a Boy Scouts of America resident camp in Stanhope, NJ where he supervises many different programs including integrating STEM and technology.
