Dr. Ray Wu-Rorrer is a Technology, Engineering, and Robotics teacher at Mary Ellen Henderson Middle School and serves as the Collaborative Team Leader in Career and Technical Education for the Falls Church City Public School System (VA). Since 1999, he has served as a faculty member in the Sustainable Landscapes Program at The George Washington University focusing on use of plant materials and sustainable landscaping practices for the Mid-Atlantic region. In 2015, he completed his Doctoral degree in Education Leadership, with the emphasis on STEM integration in middle school career and technical education programs. Prior to his Doctoral, he completed degrees in the areas of Agriculture Education, Career and Technical Education, Curriculum and Instruction, Horticulture, Instructional Design, and Landscape Design. The field of education has always been an important part of Dr. Wu-Rorrer’s life. He has continually challenged himself within the many disciplines of Career and Technical Education and worked with various organizations in planning and developing programs on regional, state and national levels. His continued relationships and involvement with hundreds of businesses and professional organizations throughout the United States over the past two decades has allowed him the unique opportunity to coordinate various educational programs, workshops, and training of all sizes. With a strong background in career and technical education and instructional technology, Dr. Wu-Rorrer’s philosophy on education is based heavily on experiential learning and the integration of new and innovative technologies that provides a higher value for learning by youth. He firmly believes that the knowledge given to a student in the classroom is only the beginning of a student’s education. It is not until a student has had the hands-on, real-world experiences that the concepts learned in the classroom are fully understood and applied.
