Position:   Computer-Aided Design

                   Assistant Professor

                                                                        Full time/Tenure track

                   Beginning August 2018

 

Description: The Department of Applied Engineering, Safety & Technology welcomes applications for an assistant professor position in Computer-Aided Design beginning August 2018.  The successful candidate will teach introductory and advanced hands-on technical laboratory courses in integrated design (product design, mechanical design, architectural design). Required:  ABD status toward a doctorate, to be completed by the time of appointment, in such fields as engineering, engineering technology, applied engineering, industrial technology, technology and engineering education, engineering education, technology management, or a related discipline, or a completed master’s degree in any of the technological fields where the master’s degree is considered a terminal degree; Experience in product design, mechanical design, architectural design, or related disciplines; Primary skills in computer-aided design, freehand sketching, technical illustration, and mechanical drawing; Expertise with design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Autodesk Revit, SolidWorks, SketchUp, Illustrator), Building Information Modeling (BIM) software such as Autodesk Navisworks, and rapid prototyping technologies; Ability to establish an active research program in product design, mechanical design, architectural design, or related disciplines that involve undergraduate students; Ability to teach major and/or non-major courses (lectures and/or laboratories) in product design, mechanical design, architectural design, or related disciplines, as well as courses within his/her area of specialization; Commitment to excellence in teaching and research at the undergraduate and/or graduate level; Commitment to working with students from diverse backgrounds; Excellent oral and written communication skills; Successful interview, teaching demonstration, and three successful background checks: Act 34 (Criminal Record Check); Act 114 (FBI Federal Criminal History-Fingerprinting); and Act 151 (Child Abuse History Clearance).

Preferred: A completed terminal degree in such fields as engineering, engineering technology, applied engineering, industrial technology, technology and engineering education, industrial design, architecture, engineering education, technology management, or a related discipline; Post-secondary level teaching experience (documented by at least one letter of reference); Three years of professional and/or industrial experience; Documented effectiveness in teaching or training; Experience writing grant proposals, advising students, and conducting and supervising research and other scholarly activities; Ability to teach graduate-level courses in the Technology & Innovation Master’s Degree Program.
