Don’t Miss 2019 Kansas City Conference Teacher Excellence General Session Keynote Speaker:

Travis McCready

President and CEO,

Massachusetts Life Sciences Center

The Importance of Experiential Learning in STEM Education

By definition, the scientific process requires experimentation, trial and error, and the practice of experiencing results, successes, and failures. Now more than ever, as STEM, in all of its facets, is embedding itself across sectors, it is crucial for experiential learning to become an integral part of education pedagogy to ensure that classroom and applied learning remain connected. In this session, Mr. McCready, CEO of the Massachusetts Life Sciences Center and operator of the largest state-run internship program in the U.S., will discuss the strategic importance of STEM experiential learning in achieving a state’s education, workforce, and economic development goals.

Travis McCready is the President and CEO of MLSC. He directs and oversees the center’s investment strategy, including the agency’s operations, programs, and partnerships. Mr. McCready is a frequent speaker on economic development strategy as it relates to the convergence of private, public, and not-for-profit interests. His blog, Life Sciences Discourses, has been recognized by The Boston Globe. Mr. McCready received his B.A. from Yale University and J.D. from the University of Iowa. A native of Brooklyn, Mr. McCready began his career as a public school teacher in the Bronx, NY.
