Brigham Young University invites applications for the position of a full-time tenure track position in Technology and Engineering Studies in the School of Technology of the College of Engineering.


The School of Technology, within the College of Engineering at Brigham Young University, is seeking to fill a full-time tenure track position in the Technology and Engineering Studies (TES) program. The Mission of the Technology and Engineering Studies program is to prepare technology and engineering teachers who will lead their profession, extend human potential, and to prepare students to be technologically literate and marketable in a variety of technology-related fields.  TES is a composite major working with the BYU David O. McKay School of Education and the Utah State Board of Education to certify graduates to teach engineering and technology classes in public schools, grades 6-12.

Candidate responsibilities could include the following:

  • Develop and teach undergraduate courses in technical content areas such as communications technology, manufacturing technology and pre-engineering.
  • Develop and teach undergraduate courses in instructional methods and pedagogy.
  • Supervision of student teachers.
  • Teach graduate level courses and mentor graduate students.
  • Serve as a faculty advisor for the BYU affiliate of the Technology and Engineering Education Collegiate Association (TEECA). 
  • Conduct scholarship and creative activities that impact the technology and engineering education profession.
  • Conduct professional development and educational outreach activities and otherwise be actively involved in the Technology and Engineering Education profession at a local, state, and national level.
  • Supervision of a material processing lab facility.


Qualifications: Candidates should have an earned doctorate in technology and engineering education or other closely related field.  Candidates should have outstanding skills in instruction, have a desire to conduct research related to technology and engineering education, have previous experience teaching technology and engineering education in grades 6-12, and have experience or a strong interest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics) education.   Salary for this position is commensurate with experience, education and University policy.
