Departing Message from Former ITEEA Executive Director

September 02, 2021

After some thoughtful reflection and now facing retirement, I am ready to start a new chapter in my life one where I take the memories from ITEEA, the profession, the HQ team/teamwork, the incredible journey with me in my heart and stand back and position myself in the proud spectator’s box and watch ITEEA flourish and grow into the future!

And that carries on without me. You each have a responsibility to lead by example, to nurture and protect what is good and right in the world with ITEEA and our profession. Remember the mission and focus of ITEEA and be a part of making a positive impact on every educator and child.

I hope I have stood up to the values that have blessed me in this life and rewarded me with this extraordinary opportunity throughout my professional career. I feel a sense of accomplishment and confidence in watching the organization and profession over these many years and hope I have inspired you to imagine that you can break rules and make things work for the better – no matter the circumstance. These are values that I urge you to continue to embody not just in work but in your life. I know you will make us all proud as you and everyone who is associated with ITEEA lives by example. Our professional values are there for a reason they have guided me and I know they will continue to guide you.

Hold true to this quote from the Dalai Lama, “The goal is not to be better than the other man, but your previous self.” Strive to be the best you can be and to live truly with high standards. Always aim higher and higher and that’s where you will go and take ITEEA with you.

Strive to make a difference. Do this in ITEEA, and in your own life. Celebrate individuality, embrace diversity and be respectful of all. Strive to exceed expectations. We cannot always accomplish every goal to perfection, but if we set our goals high and work as a team You will be amazed how far the little extra bit gets you no matter how massive an undertaking you might have delivered.

With this I want to say “THANK YOU”! Thank you for this humbling opportunity to lead ITEEA and serve the profession. I am certainly looking forward to spending more quality time with family and friends. However, I also look forward to connecting with you as the journey for ITEEA and the profession continues to assure every child has the opportunity to become technologically and engineering literate!

- Enjoy!
