Verizon donates $70,000 to Indy educators for STEM learning

The Verizon Foundation has donated $70,000 to three schools in the Indianapolis area to bolster science, technology, engineering and math education.

The money, which was donated to the Indiana School for the Deaf, Indy Learning Centers at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis and Indianapolis Public Schools' School 14, will support after-school programs, engineering courses and critical thinking.

“All of it, through and through, is about making sure young people, especially girls and minorities are engaging with STEM,” said Trevor Thomas, a Verizon spokesman. “We know that 80 percent of all jobs, including those at Verizon, will require those STEM skills.
