The STEM Center for Teaching and Learning has most recently revised the Engineering byDesign-Unit 1-Foundations of Technology and Engineering. Unit 1 has been revised to Introduction of Computer Science Principles byDesign. The latest revision of Unit One of the Foundations of Technology and Engineering course will include activities that focus on 3D modeling, computer programming, spatial reasoning, and the development of soft skills. Through a series of activities students will learn and exercise computer programming concepts and skills using Sphero robots. Students will exercise their spatial reasoning skills while developing an obstacle course in 3D modeling software like Onshape. Students will construct obstacles based on their 3D modelsusing a variety of materials or even 3D printing.
Ryan S. Novitski, ITEEA's STEM CTL Director of Learning, is a graduate of Oswego university in Technology Education, McDaniel University in Educational Leadership, and is currently pursuing his Doctorate at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. He has served at the K-12 level as both a Technology and Engineering Educator and Vice Principal.
Mr. Novitski has been an active ITEEA advocate, including presenting at ITEEA conferences, as a National Teacher Effectiveness Coach, and as part of curriculum writing committees for ITEEA as well as for the AP College Board.
Brad Fessler is a Technology and Engineering Teacher and Technology Integration Specialist at Pine Grove Area High School in Pennsylvania. With a Master Degree in Technology and Engineering Education from Millersville University, Brad has 13+ years of experience in Technical Education. Brad also works at Millersville University as an Adjunct Professor teaching multiple courses in engineering graphics. Brad is the recipient of Teacher Excellence and Program Excellence Awards from ITEEA along with Millersville University’s Innovative Educator Award. Brad was a 2018 Semi-finalist for Pennsylvania Teacher of the Year and awards a Citation of Excellence from Pennsylvania Governor Wolf for his work with students on developing a robot prosthesis. When not working on new Technology and Engineering course content, Brad enjoys outdoor activities and traveling.
