Burke Supervision and Shared Leadership Scholarship

Description: An up to $500 scholarship presented to an ITEEA practicing leader in the Technology and Engineering profession with supervisory responsibilities (PK-12 Building and Central Office, or Higher Education Administration responsibility). To be considered, individuals must apply and be accepted to present Technology and Engineering research-based practices at a major professional development conference. The recipient agrees to present at a major educational conference, ITEEA annual conference, and offer a webinar for ITEEA membership when applicable.

The Scholarship was created to honor the career and contributions of Barry N. Burke, DTE. Prior to his retirement, Burke was a long-valued Director of ITEEA’s STEM Center for Teaching and Learning who came to ITEEA after 30 years with Montgomery County Public Schools (MD) as its Director of Career and Technology Education. Burke has also served ITEEA and the profession in roles including President, Regional Director, Task Force and Committee Chairs, STL writing team, and Affiliate Representative. The scholarship is made by possible through Barry Burke’s generous contributions to ITEEA and is presented to an ITEEA practicing leader in the Technology and Engineering profession with supervisory responsibilities (PK-12 Building and Central Office, or Higher Education Administration responsibility). To be considered, individuals must apply and be accepted to present Technology and Engineering research-based practices at a major professional development conference. The recipient agrees to present at a major educational conference, ITEEA annual conference, and offer a webinar for ITEEA membership when applicable.

The purpose of the Scholarship is to disseminate best practices about Technology and Engineering education to non-traditional audiences through participation and presentation in major annual conferences. Conferences include, but are not limited to, ASCD, NSBA, AASA, NSTA, ASEE, NASSP, NAESP, ACTE, etc.

The scholarship is presented at ITEEA's Annual Conference.

Criteria:

  • Membership in ITEEA and the Council for Supervision and Leadership. Recipients must be a current: 1) PK-12 School Building or District Level Administrator; and 2) Current CSL Member. (Note: if a recipient is not a member of ITEEA/CSL, they may join for 2 years to meet this requirement).
  • Presenting at the ITEEA Annual Conference.
  • Presenting at an educational/professional development conference with a non-traditional audience.
  • Presenting a live webinar for ITEEA members.
  • Each of the above mentioned presentations will have an I-STEM Education (Integrative STEM Education) through Engineering byDesign™ focus.
  • Membership in ITEEA.
  • Membership in the ITEEA Council for Supervision and Leadership (CSL).​
