Authorized Training Institute (ATI): Empowering Educators, Transforming Education

What is the Authorized Training Institute (ATI)?

The Authorized Training Institute (ATI) is designed to cultivate leaders in Technology and Engineering (T&E) education by certifying them as Authorized Teacher Effectiveness Coaches (ATECs) in the Engineering byDesign (EbD) curriculum. This initiative empowers educators to train other teachers, thereby expanding the reach and impact of high-quality STEM education.

Why Invest in ATI?

  • Build a Sustainable Teacher Training Network: States, districts, and schools can create a self-sustaining network of certified ATECs who are equipped to deliver professional development and training in the EbD curriculum. This reduces dependency on external trainers and fosters a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration within the educational community.
  • Enhance STEM Education Quality: By investing in ATI, educational institutions can ensure that their teachers are well-prepared to deliver cutting-edge STEM education. ATECs are trained in a variety of EbD courses, from elementary to high school levels, ensuring that students receive comprehensive and cohesive STEM learning experience.
  • Professional Growth and Leadership: ATI provides educators with the opportunity to grow professionally and become leaders in their field. Certified ATECs gain valuable skills and knowledge that enhance their teaching practice and open further career opportunities, including presenting at conferences and facilitating EbD workshops.

The Authorized Training Institute (ATI) is a crucial program for scaling the Engineering byDesign (EbD) curriculum and enhancing the quality of STEM education. By investing in ATI, states, districts, and schools can build a sustainable network of highly skilled teacher trainers, improve the quality of STEM education, and foster a culture of innovation and collaboration. Join us in empowering educators and transforming education through the ATI program.

Please note: To become an Authorized Teacher Effectiveness Coach (ATEC) in a specific course, ATECs must complete the ATI for each course they wish to be certified in. Additionally, they are required to intern at an EbD Summer Workshop for each course attended at ATI, or as specified by the ITEEA’s STEM Center for Teaching and Learning. While travel expenses for interns will be covered, the internship itself is unpaid. Those who complete ATI will receive 24 hours of professional development, which can be used for certification. They may also be eligible to present on behalf of the STEM Center at the ITEEA Conference and can earn three graduate credits through St. Cloud State University.
